Osiris [The Destructive Character]

Osiris illustrates the “Destructive Character” of time as conceived by the German philosopher Walter Benjamin. According to him, time is a continual circuit of decay and resurrection. In this circuit the New can only arise from the destruction of the Old.

Osiris is a drawing machine which is meant to depict this positive sight on destruction by painting over photographs. According to Benjamin, paintings, photograph and buildings are “spatial manifested past”. By painting over photos, Osiris destroys the actual meaning and original purpose by making their portrayal of memories nearly unrecognizable.

The patterns are unique and will change from day to day, calculated from the current date. The user has to pick and replace the photo every day.
